Ukraine's mine action strategy: development of the first operational plan

On March 5-7, 2024, representatives of the SEAL SSTTC took part in the seminar "Strategy of mine action of Ukraine: development of the first operational plan", organized by the Ministry of Economy and the international organization Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (Switzerland).

Representatives of the public sector, in particular the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense, the State Emergency Service, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, experts from international and Ukrainian non-governmental organizations took an active part in the seminar.

The purpose of the seminar was to involve governmental and non-governmental organizations in the discussion of acute issues in the field of mine action and the development of the basis of the operational plan for the implementation of the Strategy for 2024-2026.

Among the issues discussed during the seminar were the stimulation of the market of mine action (MA) services, in particular, the creation of a mechanism for the recognition of international professional qualifications in Ukraine, the development and introduction of criteria for non-technical surveys of territories that will testify to the absence of their "mine" contamination, the development of innovations in MA , providing conditions for the development of own production of goods for MA, implementation of environmentally safe demining methods and much more.

Representatives of the SEAL SSTTC took part in the discussions, defending their vision of the development of the MA field and receiving new information that will be useful when the Center implements projects within the framework of mine action.
