  • SEAL Center Joins Development of National Standards for Underwater Demining

In March 2026, the Survival and Special Training Center “SEAL” officially joined the work of the Technical Committee for Standardization TC 322 “Standardization of Processes in Mine Action”, as well as a профиль working group responsible for developing the national standard “Mine Action. Management Processes. Underwater Demining” (DSTU 8820-7).

The involvement of the SEAL Center reflects recognition of its practical expertise in mine action, particularly in one of the most complex and high-risk domains — underwater demining.

Technical Committee TC 322 is a key national body responsible for:

  • developing and implementing standards in mine action;

  • harmonizing Ukrainian standards with international frameworks (including IMAS);

  • defining technical requirements for equipment, methodologies, and personnel training;

  • integrating Ukraine’s operational experience into international standardization processes.

The working group, which includes SEAL experts, focuses on establishing a regulatory framework for:

  • survey and clearance of water bodies;

  • application of modern technical solutions;

  • standardization of safety procedures;

  • improving operational efficiency in aquatic environments.

SEAL’s participation will enable:

  • integration of real-world operational and combat experience into national standards;

  • increased practical applicability of regulatory documents;

  • alignment of standards with current wartime challenges;

  • strengthening Ukraine’s capacity to clear contaminated water areas.

The development of DSTU 8820-7 is an important step toward building a systematic, safe, and effective mine action framework in Ukraine, particularly given the масштаб contamination of land and water resources caused by the war.
